Brand NEU Bio....check it out! 4/17/07

So the album is sooooo close to being mixed....like 1 song away!! Yippee!! And the rest of the train is chuggin' along. So much to be done! PR, album photo shoot / artwork, distribution, planning the cd release party....sheesh! No time to rest :)

In prep for some of that stuff (esp the PR stuff) I hired this really fabulous writer dude to write my new bio....I just posted it....take a read! Leave a comment! Lemme know your thoughts.....

Odd experience of the day: I was driving to the bank during lunch and as I was turning left, a large bald man in a turquoise plaid shirt made direct eye contact with me and then curtsied. Yes, he CURTSIED....like a bow, but what a girl is supposed to do I guess. He actually took hold of either side of the turquoise garb, held it out from his sides, and CURTSIED. Huh. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind all day. Maybe I'm supposed to pass it on? Pay it forward??? Hmmm....

The Players: Julie Neumark, lead vocals, acoustic guitar; Marvin McDaniel, guitar; Luis Oliart, bass, backup vocals; Drew Himez, drums; Holly Lucille, harmony vocals.


Material: Julie Neumark is an Americana artist with a blues orientation. Though she really isn't breaking any new ground in this genre, what she does is delivered exceedingly well. This style of music requires honesty, a real connection with humanity, and the ability to express emotional content. Neumark nails them all. Similar to Beth Hart, Shelby Lynne and KT Tunstall, Neumark has crafted a style of her own. Her songs reflect life, and all the passion, pain and joy it holds. At times, her lyrics are observational –– almost Dylanesque –– while other times they seem so intimate listeners may feel like they're intruding. The ability to craft songs with that kind of impact is one of Neumark's strengths, but not her greatest, which is her voice.

Musicianship: Neumark's vocal skills are outstanding. She has the passion of Janis Joplin, and a rare sincerity in her delivery. Hearing her sing makes you a believer in the song. And that, of course, is the hallmark of great artists. Her band plays up to her level with an intensity that's inspiring. In fact, these players serve the music, and their remarkable vocalist, as it should be.

Performance: With her "Rock Star" belt buckle and take no prisoners approach, Neumark gave this show her all. Indeed, she was a firecracker onstage. Between songs, she was charming, informative and endearing, which pleased the crowd.
Summary: Julie Neumark delivers the complete package. She's got the talent, the looks and that all-important ability to connect with her audience to produce a memorable show. Neumark simply needs to continue executing what she is already doing, until industry representatives take notice.
